Country brief

How identity verification works in Thailand.

The fraud surface and the frameworks an engineering or compliance lead needs before scoping an integration.
Fraud landscape
Three pressures shape Thai identity fraud: deepfake injection against the BoT- and SEC-mandated electronic-KYC (e-KYC) flows on digital-asset exchanges and mobile banking, organised forgery of legacy laminated Thai ID cards in the tourism and remittance corridors, and synthetic-identity mule farming against PromptPay-linked accounts. Didit scores 200+ real-time fraud signals on every session — face morph, replay, injection, document tampering, device intelligence, IP geolocation.
Compliance frameworks
  • AMLA B.E. 2542 (Anti-Money Laundering Act)
  • PDPA B.E. 2562 (Personal Data Protection)
  • BoT e-KYC Guidelines (Notification SorNorChor 8/2562)
  • Royal Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E. 2561
  • Counter Terrorism and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Financing Act B.E. 2559
  • FATF 40 recommendations
Regulators

Who supervises identity verification in Thailand.

These are the supervisors a Thailand verification flow has to answer to. One Didit hosted flow + one audit log covers every one of them — no separate integration per agency.
  • BoT

Bank of Thailand — central bank and prudential supervisor for banks, payment service providers and e-money issuers. Sets the e-KYC and remote-onboarding requirements binding on every financial institution.

  • SEC Thailand

Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission Thailand — securities and digital-asset supervisor. Licenses Digital Asset Business Operators under the Royal Decree on Digital Asset Businesses B.E. 2561.

  • AMLO

Anti-Money Laundering Office — Thailand's Financial Intelligence Unit. Receives Suspicious Transaction Reports and Cash Transaction Reports under the AMLA B.E. 2542 as amended.

  • PDPC

Personal Data Protection Committee — enforces the PDPA B.E. 2562 (Personal Data Protection Act). Governs how identity-verification data is collected, processed and stored.

  • DOPA

Department of Provincial Administration — civil-registry authority within the Ministry of Interior. Issues the Thai National ID Card and operates the ThaID digital identity wallet.

Verification flow · One API

Four modules. One verification.

ID, biometric, AML, and a Thailand database cross-check — composed on one workflow, billed per success, returned in one report.
01 · ID

Capture and read the ID.

Captured on any phone — auto-classified, OCR-parsed, and template-verified.

  • Thai National ID Card (smart card), ThaID digital wallet, Thai Passport with the chip read on the NFC channel, DLT Driver's Licence, and the Foreigner Pink ID Card.
  • Returns the full name (Thai + English), 13-digit national ID, date of birth, religion, and address.

  • AMLO High Risk Persons List — Anti-Money Laundering Office Thailand high-risk designations.
  • THAMLO-SANC — Thailand AMLO Sanctions — formal sanctions under the AMLA B.E. 2542 as amended.
  • SECTHAI — Securities and Exchange Commission Thailand — SEC enforcement and sanctioned-entity register.
  • National Assembly of Thailand PEP register — Members of Parliament and senators (PEP Level 1).

04 · Registry

Cross-check against the DOPA national registry.

Cross-checked against the authoritative civil registry.

  • The Thailand National ID check (tha_national_id, $0.16, ~90% coverage) is the DOPA government-sourced authoritative lookup — name, date of birth, 13-digit national ID and optional address are verified against the source on file.
  • Use it as the post-capture validation step on every fintech, crypto-exchange and remittance onboarding to satisfy the BoT and SEC Thailand e-KYC source-verification requirement.
